The story of an astronaut abandoned in the space station, Love is quite an interesting homage to Kubrick’s 2001.  Both are visually stunning, obscure, and tell the stories of astronauts who live through an ordeal only to have what seems their almost certain immanent demise transformed into a mystical experience.  Both begin with the past and establish its connection across time to characters and events in the present.  Love comes up a bit short of 2001 in all respects, especially the last.  Still, it is a worthy effort that has much to recommend it, including what Dustin Hucks of Aint it Cool News refers to as “a Solaris-like bend to the film, a spiritual, science fiction element that will make audiences question setting and reality.
