So what props would be at the top of your list if you were going to open a Hard Rock Cafe style restaurant except for Movie enthusiasts? (Planet Hollywood not withstanding.) Following is the start of my list.
1. The portrait of Gene Tierney from Laura.
In the movie Laura, Dana Andrews plays a private detective hired to find out who killed the titular character, played by Gene Tierney. In the course of the investigation, he falls in love with Laura. Of course he does. Gene Tierney was gorgeous. He may as well have had himself lashed to the mast and his ears filled with wax. That’s what I’d do if I had this painting. Oddly enough, it’s not a painting at all. Otto Preminger wanted something photo realistic, so Frank Polony took a photograph of Gene, had it blown up to scale, and then brushed on some oil paint. Oh, yeah, and the Monkees didn’t play their own instruments. And the Kiss Alive! album was overdubbed. And Bob’s your uncle. And I want this portrait of Gene Tierney.
